Which Sin Do You Hate Most?

Which Sin Do You Hate Most?

You cant go on FaceBook without seeing the posts about Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast.  News has spread that the film will be featuring Disney’s first openly gay character, LeFou.  And although I would never defend the portrayal of a homosexual character, I do think we should take closer look at how Christians should feel, not just about this film, but all entertainment that portrays sinful behavior.

Homosexuality is a sin.  I don't think anyone who takes an honest look at the Bible would disagree.  However, so is fornication, violence, and hate.  How often do we see these actions displayed on the big screen and never bat an eye?  As a culture, Americans expect to seeing a certain level of “action” or “adventure” in our entertainment, and sadly, sin is entertaining.  What appalls us one day becomes mainstream the next, and seeps into all of our favorite shows and movies (bad language, innuendo, drugs, alcohol, sexual content).

In the sight of God, all sin is equal.  It is not consistent to praise one sin-filled movie, and bash another.  If we are to live a life different from the world, we can not pick and choose the sins that we deem acceptable or unacceptable.  To have a mind like Christ, we should be repulsed by ALL sin.  Does this sound radical?  It should!  In order for us to be pleasing to God, we must abstain from every appearance of evil, not just the hot button issues.

While it may seem fulfilling to condemn a popular sin, we always be careful that camping on one sin while ignore ones that we have become accustomed to shows that world that we are not avoiding every form of evil.  Even when it comes to our everyday life, we should follow Paul’s admonition to walk circumspectly, examining the contents of our hearts, minds, and lives.
